Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 1/2 cup halved onion, sliced
- 4 stalks celery
- 1 cup of chopped cabbage
- 1 bunch scallion, chopped fine
- 1 whole skinless chicken breast
- 3 cups water or chicken broth
- 1 (15 ounce) can bean sprout
- 1 (8 ounce) can water chestnuts
Sauce
- 3 tablespoons molasses
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon flour
Directions
- Pour oil into a preheat pan or wok.
- Add onions and celery.
- Cook until tender.
- Stir in chopped cabbage and scallions and cook for one minute.
- Remove vegetables from heat and set them aside.
- In a large sauce pan under medium heat, simmer chicken in water/broth until thoroughly cooked.
- Remove chicken from broth and set on a plate to cool.
- When cool enough to handle, remove chicken from bone and chop into 1 1/2 inch pieces.
- Add cooked vegetables and chicken to broth.
- Add (drained) bean sprouts and water chestnuts to broth.
- Sauce: Add all ingredients to a small bowl and whisk until smooth.
- Add to chicken/vegetables.
- Cook, stirring constantly over med/low heat until slightly thickened.
- Serve over rice or crispy Chinese noodles

- 2 pounds chicken, cut into pieces
- 4 pieces potatoes, cut into 4 pieces
- 1 onion diced
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- ¾ cup soy sauce
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced into strips
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced into strips
- 1/2 cup green peas
- 2 pcs of hotdog, sliced (optional)
- 3 cups water
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 3 tablespoons of cooking oil
- patis (fish sauce)or salt
- pepper
Method
- Marinate the chicken lemon juice and soy sauce. Set aside.
- Heat oil, sauté garlic and onions.
- Add the chicken. Fry until golden brown, about 10 minutes. Add the marinated juice.
- Pour the tomato sauce and water. Bring to a boil and allow to simmer for 20 minutes or until the chicken is almost cooked.
- Add potatoes and hotdog; cook for 10 minutes or until the potatoes are cooked.
- Add the green, red bell peppers and peas, simmer for an additional minute or two.
- Fish sauce or salt and pepper to taste.
