Ginataang Alimango (Crabs in Coconut Milk)

Ingredients

 

·      3 medium crabs

·      4 cups coconut milk about 2 cans (13.5 fl oz per can)

·      1 lbs squash (kalabasa), sliced into cubes

·      1 bunch string beans, cut into 2.5 inch length

·      2 tablespoon fish sauce

·      1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

·      1 medium onion, sliced

·      3 cloves garlic, minced

·      cooking oil

 

 

 

Method

 

·      In a large pot over medium-high heat, add the oil and heat.

·      Add garlic and onion and sauté, stirring for 1 minute.

·      Add coconut milk, fish sauce and ground black pepper and cook for 10 minutes in medium heat.

·      Add crabs and stir.  Cook for 10 minutes.

·      Add squash and cook until it becomes a bit soft.

·      Add string beans, stir and cook for about 3 to 5 minutes.

Sinigang na Bangus na may Miso (Milkfish in a tamarind and miso soup)

Ingredients

·          10 cups water

·      1 package (40 g / 1.41 0z) tamarind ready-mix powder ( Sinigang Mix) **

·      1 small onion, sliced

·      1 tomato, sliced

·      1 large bangus (milkfish), cleaned and cut into 5 pcs

·      1 bundle mustard leaves

·      1-2 pieces chili pepper

·      1/2 cup miso (soybean paste)

·      salt or patis (fish sauce) to taste



Method

·      10 cups water

·      Put water in a pot.

·      Add tamarind powder. Stir to dissolve

·      Add onions, tomatoes and miso. Bring to a boil for 5 minutes.

·      Add bangus and cook for another 5 minutes or until fish is cooked.

·       Add mustard leaves and chili pepper.

·      Simmer and let cook for 3 minutes.

·      Season to taste.

** If you prefer a little sour on your soup, decrease the amount of tamarind mix.
